En el mes de
octubre de 2005, de paseo por el Rajasthan, me encontré en medio de un rodaje
de Hollywood en el castillo de Jodpur. El edificio no estaba cerrado a
los turistas, así que los transeúntes nos mezclamos en medio del equipo,
actores y extras que en ese momento estaban trabajando. En un descanso me acerqué
al actor que posa en la foto, diciéndole que se parecía mucho a Fernando Rey.
Él sonrió dándome las gracias, y se presentó amablemente estrechándome la mano
con fuerza: “Hola, soy John Rhys-Davies”.
Le dije que tenía que disculparme, pero su nombre no me sonaba, a lo que me
respondió con sorna. “Sí, si que me conoces, aunque no me hayas reconocido
ahora: soy “Gimli”, de El señor de los
Anillos”. Me quedé estupefacto.
In October 2005, travelling in
Rajasthan, I found myself in the middle of a Hollywood shooting in the Jodpur Castle. The building was not closed to tourists and the passersby
mixed with the team, actors and extras, whom were working at that time. In a
break I went to the chair of the actor who poses in the photo, saying he was a
lot like Fernando Rey. He smiled with a "thank you very much", and
very polite he introduced himself shaking his hand tightly: "Hi, I'm John Rhys-Davies". I apologised
because I didn't know who was him. With
irony he replied. "Yes, you know me, but you have not recognized me right
now: I am "Gimli" from "The Lord of the Rings". I was stunned.
Hubo buen rollito
con John y estuvimos charlando largo rato. Me contó que estuvo muchos años
enamorado de una mujer española (no desveló su nombre).
Mientras recordaba,
melancólicamente acariciaba una flor amarilla que tenía entre sus manos, tal y
como atestigua la foto que le tomé.
There were very good vibes with John
and we talked a long time. He told me during many years he was in love
with a Spanish woman (he did not disclose her name). He recalled this event
while wistfully stroked a yellow flower between his hands, as witnessed the
photo I made.
